Nelson Zhu - Vice President.

NELSON ZHU is Vice President and a co-founder of Sandman Animation Studio.

Nelson was actually one of the first people I met when I came to China in April 1995. From the very first meeting his professionalism, patience and calmness impressed me as much then, as it continues to do today. It is a great feeling to meet someone, watch them grow and become partners after 15 years of friendship.

Starting out in animation in 1991, he was the head of a translation department. His natural talent for languages and management quickly pushed him to the position of Studio Manager of the Digital Animation Department at Hong Ying. During that period of time we worked on many productions together, and we watched the ‘cel age’ become the ‘digital age’. Nelson seemed to embrasse the digital age like a duck to water, the systems and progressions all seemed so easy for him. After a few years at this position and after being a major part of the setting up of the Hong Ying Nanjing Digital Studio and the Hong Ying Shanghai Digital Studio, he was promoted again to become Vise General Manager of Hong Ying Universe and all productions going through the 2D traditional and digital departments.

Over the past 17 years his language skills, his management experience and his knowledge of a working animation production studio made it obvious to me, that he would be an important pillar of strength to a studio that I had been dreaming of for many years, his experience and persistant striving for perfection was just what Sandman Animation Studio was looking for. To my delight, he embrassed the idea of building the ultimate Animation Studio together and Sandman Animation Studio became a reality. Sandman Animation Studio not only became an exciting step for us as people but as time passes, it seems to becoming an important step forward in Chinese animation and becoming very highly regarded for it's constant strive for perfection and highest quality.

Nelson represents Sandman Animation studio as a Director and Board Member of the Jiangsu Art Occupation and Education Group and in Mid 2007, was instructional in setting up another stage in the company’s dream in becoming a leading force in the Teaching of animation in China. In 2008 the ‘Sandman Animation Classes’ were set up and became a very successful resource for the young animation talent. As a result of a very successful relationship with the Top Universities in Suzhou, the classes were given a brass plaque of honor. A very proud moment for the company. Today, We take great interest in the up and coming young artists in Asia and invest our time to bring them to the quality standards that has been set by the studio.

Nelson’s passion to make Sandman Animation Studio a leading name in the animation in China, assures me I have the perfect partner.
